SYNOPSIS

En commençant à filmer ma famille, j'éprouvais le besoin de conserver les images de mon propre monde, un petit monde juif en voie de disparition. Je voulais faire le lien entre deux univers : moi, actrice à Paris, et ma famille de prolétaires juifs polonais émigrés. J'ai filmé pendant sept ans ma famille de petits tailleurs juifs dont les enfants se sont tous mariés avec des Noirs, des Belges et des Arabes. Je me rends compte aujourd'hui du film que j'ai fait, à quel point ma génération et moi-même avons été touchées dans notre intimité par le poids de l'"Histoire". Et que les grandes valeurs d'ouverture qui nous ont été transmises, puisées dans l'histoire même des persécutions juives, portaient en elles cette contradiction de mener à la rupture avec l'identité juive. Mon film tourne autour de cette rupture chaotique, lente et pleine d'accrocs. Et de ces restes d'identité. "Que restera-t-il de tout ça ? Faut-il que quelque chose reste de tout ça ? Et "tout ça", c'est quoi ?"

Starting by filming my family, I felt the need to preserve the images of my own world, which seemed to be slipping through my fingers. A little Jewish world, world in the process of disappearing. I wanted to make the link between two worlds. Me, an actress in Paris and my family of Polish emigrant Jewish workers. For seven years, I filmed my family of small Jewish tailors, whose children all married Blacks, Belgians and Arabs. I realise what kind of film I have made, the extent to which my generation and myself have been so deeply affected by the burden of "History". And the fact that the great values of openness, which have been passed on to us, drawn from the very history of the persecution of the Jews, carried within them that contradiction of leading to a break with the Jewish identity. My film revolves around that break : chaotic, slow and full of hitches. And those remnants of identity ? "What will remain of all that ? Does anything have to remain of all that ? And what is "all that"?
